Fear of number 13
In the West, this 13 is not a lucky number. This is because this number is associated with the fact that 13 sat down to the Last Supper, and one of them died in a year. The psychological impact of this occurrence is so much on the human mind that it is said that even in some of the hospitals in the West, a 13th bed is avoided, though tactfully.
There is another cause as to why there is a fear of this number. The occult symbolism that stood for number 13 was represented by a mystic picture of ‘A skeleton with a scythe in its bony hands reaping down men.’ Nobody could understand its real significance and it was considered as an unlucky number. However it can have an unlucky significance if the number 13 emerges only by chance, that is to say, if a number of people are invited to supper, and only 13 remain resent, then it may be a bad omen.
